| The advent of cloud computing has come along just in the nick of time. Google have been working hard to produce the world's very best solutions for email, calendar and document management. These systems are not new - Google have been providing these systems for individuals to use for some time now. The features have been tested and refined into the very plausible suite of applications that are available for business use today.
Forget using joe.bloggs@gmail.com style email addresses - Google has moved on and now offers branded systems using your companies own domain names. This means that nobody you deal with will spot that you're using the Google platform. You can even continue to use your usual email program (usually Outlook) which means you can still use the email letterheads and signatures that you're currently using.
One thing you will most definitely notice though is a MASSIVE reduction in spam. Google own the Postini spam filtering system and make it available (FREE!) to everyone who uses the Google platform for their business. This system is simply fantastic. It's extremely intelligent and quick to respond to global changes and evolving threats. Are you using Microsoft Exchange to handle your email system? So were we until we migrated our own systems to Google. We have noticed an enormous reduction in spam (possibly around 80 - 90% reduction) and yet it still lets the majority of genuine mail through just on its default settings. checking your spam filter is easy, too. Each user gets an easy to use interface where they can check their own spam filter, release genuine mail, and mark genuine senders as safe. Give it a week or two and it will have learned what to expect from you and will have become even more accurate!
Motorola and Land Rover are just a couple of the major players that have migrated to Google. They no longer have servers to maintain as everything is stored 'in the cloud'. The files they use and share between users are all stored online in Google Docs where access permissions can be configured to restrict or allow access for various different users. Calendars are shareable at the click of a mouse and syncronise with laptops, tablets and smart phones so that staff who are on the road are always up to date.
'Great, but I doubt I will be able to afford this for my business!'
Really? Can you not afford £3.30 per user, per month? Once you've migrated to Google, your email, contacts, calendars, docs, sites, video and chat system will cost £3.30 per user, per month. That's it!
Pleasantly surprised? We were, too!
